What Is Vermeil?

Vermeil (pronounced ver-MAY) is gold plated over sterling silver. To be considered vermeil by the FTC, the gold must be at least 10 karat and must be at least 2.5 micrometers thick. We use a combination of 14k and 24k vermeil in our jewelry. We like using this material, because unlike gold-fill or other gold-plated jewelry, vermeil maintains its intrinsic value over time since it has a precious metal beneath the plating.

Why Do You Use 14k Gold in your fine jewelry?

We prefer to work in 14k gold because of the color and durability that it provides. 14k gold is 58.5% pure gold. Gold in its pure form is corrosive and soft. When you alloy it with other metals, it becomes more durable. The quality of our pieces is very important to us, and we want your jewelry to be strong enough for everyday wear.

18k gold is 75% pure, but it is slightly softer than 14k and slightly more expensive. The color is also a bit more saturated. We understand that not everyone has the same gold preference! Any of our made-to-order pieces can be created in 18k gold, and we are happy to accommodate the request! Please email us to inquire about a special order!

we are happy to make adjustments.we can do our best to recreate it...

In most cases, yes! Many items on our site are made-to-order, and I am happy to make adjustments to the size, leather color, or metal color.

If you see a one-of-a-kind or beaded semiprecious piece that you like, I can do my best to recreate it with the desired adjustments. Please keep in mind that many of the pieces are created with natural found objects, and are therefore subject to variations in stone color, shape, pattern, and clarity.

Custom orders are handcrafted to your specifications, and are therefore final sale.

Is Your Full Collection Available on the Site?

We strive to represent as much of our jewelry as possible on our website. We do, however, also create many small batch and one-of-a-kind pieces that may not be listed on the Sea+Stone™  website. To catch the newest designs that don’t make it to the website, follow us on Facebook & Instagram @seaandstonejewelry. We are always happy to create an order for a piece that you discover on our social media. When we receive an order through a social media platform, we process it by emailing an invoice that is payable online via credit card.

Can you Replace a Lost Earring?

Due to the fact that we create small-batch, handcrafted jewelry, we only make/sell our earrings in pairs, and unfortunately cannot sell them individually. If you lose one earring from a pair, we will treat the creation of a matching earring like a custom order. Please send us an image of your earring, and we will assess if another can be made. If we can create another, we will require a 50% deposit up-front and will give you a time estimate on how long it will take to source materials and create a new one. When completed, we will charge the remaining cost, applicable sales tax & shipping.

How Do I Know My Ring Size?

The best way to determine your ring size is to go to a local jeweler to have your finger sized. Most jewelers will size your finger for free. Please keep in mind that often, the fingers on your less dominant hand are smaller than the fingers on your dominant hand. Fingers also shrink when cold or wet.

Will You Gift Wrap My Order/Leave a Personal Message?

Absolutely! When you purchase an item on our online shop, please leave a message at checkout stating that the item is a gift. We will happily gift wrap it free of charge! If you would like us to include a personal message with your order, simply write your message in the “Notes” section during checkout. We will handwrite it on a Sea+Stone note card and include it with your order.

Where Is Your Jewelry Made?

Our materials come from all around the world, but Sea+Stone Jewelry is handcrafted in the USA!

Our semi-precious collection is made in our studio located just outside of Charleston, SC. We hand sketch & select stones for our fine jewelry collection in-house. The designs then come to life in New York City, where our jewelry is 3D printed, cast, and fabricated by skilled artisans.

Can You Rush My Order?

Most items listed on our website are in-stock and can ship on the same day that they are purchased. Made-to-order fine jewelry pieces can take up to 2-3 weeks to fabricate and ship. Custom semiprecious jewelry made with gold-edged or silver-edged organic objects belonging to the customer (shells, antlers, stones, etc) can take 4-6 weeks due to the intricacies of the edging process. If you would like to have an order rushed, please contact us prior to making your purchase. We will do everything in our power to make sure that you have your jewelry by the date you request! Additional fees may apply if expedited shipping is required.
