Rio De Janeiro

I have now spent a week in Rio de Janeiro and still just find it incomprehensible how vibrant and beautiful it is. It’s hard to believe that such a place exists. It has all the perks of a big city- but it is literally carved right into the coastline and into tropical forests. The beaches are perfect- white powdery sand and crystal clear water. The food here is delicious, hearty, and affordable. The people are so warm and kind. And the city is so colorful- even now that it’s allegedly “winter”. I would trade in my dreary black NYC winter wardrobe for this in a heartbeat. I’ve always felt so at home by the ocean- so finding a place that marries the appeal and amenities of city life with the scenery and lifestyle of beach life is a dream come true.

I suppose I can’t make Rio home just now, but it has been so nice to take inspiration from its beautiful colors and landscapes. It would be impossible not to find inspiration here. Every day has been sensory overload in the best way imaginable. There is art everywhere- in the street fairs, the markets, and literally on every wall in Rio. The graffiti here is all actual art. And it seems to be a generally welcomed addition to the landscape. There are flowers and giant tropical trees on every street. All sorts of colorful birds- yesterday I looked up in time to see a bunch of toucans landing in a canopy near me. Yesterday we climbed through the neighborhood of Santa Teresa. It felt very Mediterranean- steep hills, gorgeous architecture, colorful buildings, winding narrow alleyways, and a stunning view of the ocean.

I seriously can’t say enough about what a wonderland Rio is. I’ll let my pictures do the talking!
