Anywhere in NYC is walking distance if you have enough time...and the right shoes!
I am on the way home from my shopping trip to New York. While there, my mom and I crossed a bunch of raw materials and supplies off our list, found some great new gems & goodies to work with, and also were able to browse the city, stores, & boutiques for some trend research.
I am so upset that I forgot to bring my FitBit with me. But according to my phone, we walked about 20,000 steps per day. This used to be the norm for me when I lived in NYC, but now that I'm a car-driving, princess-parking Southerner again, I don't accumulate nearly as many daily steps despite walking the dog and going to the gym.
I wore my chucks to walk around town- and after two days of stomping around the diamond and garment district, I found myself wincing in pain with every step.
My husband is constantly trying to get me to opt for more comfortable footwear. But what can I say?! I'm vain and want to look cute. I find myself complaining on the regular about wearing the wrong shoes. It took me months to recover from my 5 mile strappy sandal hike to find sunflowers this Summer.
I kept telling my husband that I just was NOT the type of girl who wore sneakers anywhere aside of to the gym. However, being in New York introduced me to the whole concept of athleisure. What an amazing and beautiful term?! I had no idea there was a name for it! I used to wear yoga clothes around town to run errands (and order bagels) AS IF mayyyybe I just came from the gym and not the comfort of my bed.
Anyways, WOOP WOOP for fashionable, dressed-up "exercise" clothing and accessories!
I thought I was being very responsible by packing chucks instead of my usual support-less, flat sandals. But I was mistaken and the Converse shoes murdered my feet. Before I totally throw Chucks under the bus for their thin, flat soles- know that my Chucks were purchased in early 2015 before they announced that after 100 years, they were redesigning their signature shoe to be more comfortable. But as Bloomberg so perfectly put it- "this oh-so high-tech innovation comes after "a billion sore feet."
I ended up shopping around for new shoes and was blown away at the cute looks and luxurious comfort of many of the atheleisure shoes available. I wanted to put together a list so that nobody would repeat my mistakes on vacation. These are some of my favorite walking shoes and would be great options to wear on your next adventure.
